spring blah’s?

I haven’t written in several days. Feeling kind of tired of everything. Middle-Eastern unrest and upheaval, political sniping, natural disasters and their consequences, arguing children, cats throwing up in the hallway, ugly shoes, professional disappointments, the widening gap between rich and poor, dreary weather, skinny models, Charlie Sheen imploding, blah blah blah.

11 It’s All Been Done

It’s just all the same stuff all the time, and I’m not sure I have anything new to say about it. Besides, do I expect I’m going to change the world one barely-read blog post at a time? Maybe my time would be better spent baking cookies with my daughter or trying to start that short story I’ve been writing in my head for three years, or that article on birth order that will probably meet the same fate as my dissertation (that is, once finished, never again seeing the light of day; who thinks it’s a good idea to spend nine months writing something that your committee and one other person reads?)

But, today’s grace: a cup of really good coffee, pear tart with homemade yogurt for breakfast, Only Daughter starting her daily marathon of front and back walkovers (she “needs to stay in shape while there’s no gymnastics this week”), a two-and-a-half hour teaching day before me instead of the usual 7, birthday salmon and “twinkie” cake (not really, heaven help us, rather a delicious albeit probably-not-particularly-healthy substitute) for my husband (today, happy birthday darlin’) and his son (tomorrow).

I always like to encourage a creative writer, because I know how hard the writing process is for me. Especially to just begin. If you feel a short story coming on, I hope you’ll chase it with all your might. It’s good for them to be chased, you know.

So many people going through a similar funk right now – could it be the radiation in the air? My friend sitting across from me, myself, another blogger I follow.
I, too, watch my daughters doing their walkovers and remember a time when life was simpler. Start your short story and share it on your blog!

The spring blahs/blues seem to be going around. Hang in there!

We all get tired. Yes, the issues seem the same. No, you probably won’t change the world with your blog. But it’s still good to write and to exchange views with others, and it’s good to express yourself.

I took a short story writing class earlier this year and really enjoyed it. The goal of the class was to write one short story, which we all did. It was pretty cool to have a finished short story. Maybe you need a support group? I never would have done it on my own — but having the class and smaller goals each week helped me to write the story and that was a milestone for me. If your have a story in there, you should let it out.

I like the article on birth order idea. I find that a very interesting topic. Are you a first born? I am. Did you know there are online magazines that are looking for writers and articles? You could perhaps write the article and then sell it to one of them. Just a thought.

Happy birthday to your husband and son. I think you spend quality time with your daughter, by the way, yet still you need to feed yourself, so whatever creative endeavors come up in your mind to do, you should probably try to find a way to honor doing them, as that creative juice is what keeps us going as ourselves, don’t you think?

Think of being creative as practicing walkovers, as your daughter so naturally does. She is keeping limber and fit because, even though there is no class this week, her body and mind are telling her she feels better when she does this. Your mind is reminding you of what you need to do to stay happy and healthy, and there is really no need to meet any goal, other than just exercising your own creativity for the sake of yourself. But if you need a goal, write the article and the short story, then try to sell them to online magazines. If you want, I can give you some names that were given to me in the writing class. Apparently they really need articles and writers, so it’s not a far-fetched idea!
