The Year in Pictures

New York Times has a provocative “year in pictures” series. Click here if you’d like to see it.

I didn’t do an official count, or anything, but it seems to be made of 3 categories:

1.  Horrible things mankind does to each other and the planet.

2.  Natural disasters and the havoc they wreak.

3.  Sporting events.

Unfortunately, it is only pictures from category 3, Sporting events, and those of the rescued Chilean miners and of Aung San Suu Kyi finally, and probably temporarily, released from house arrest, that seem to reflect anything positive.

I wonder if we could come up with a year in pictures of more uplifting things. Second son vacuuming the basement (as we speak), for example, or my daughter’s beautiful face.

Would anyone want to see that, do you suppose?

I do like the daughter’s beautiful face and wish my husband would emulate the son with the vacuuming part.

Yes. I want to see the joy as well. Here’s a photo from this year I particularly love; it’s of my daughter fanning herself with the program from my graduation from the UW Anthropology Department this June. It was unusually warm that day, and we were happy to be out in the air where we could breathe and congratulate one another.

Fear sells. At least that’s the axiom in news. I only looked at a few of those images and they were depressing, so I stopped.

I’d love to see nice pics. Your daughter’s face is lovely and I am imagining your son doing the vacuuming! My, how industrious!

My husband’s sister sent us pictures of her young daughters (they are in Australia, we are in the U.S.) for New Year’s and I just looked at them. Lovely. 4 and 2, and lovely little girls they are. One of the older daughter wearing a tiara in front of her “Hello Kitty” birthday cake. Imagine THAT! Too cute.

I have beautiful photos of the 2 kittens I fostered from 2 weeks old (this past year), and can’t think of anything cuter than a 2 week old kitten eating from a bottle. I am adding a link to my blog in case anyone wants to look at pics of them. They are surely inspriational, young, sweet, and “good”.

Happy New Year to everyone who stops by (here and my blog)!

I have to agree! We need more stories of hope than horror. I took your word for it and didn’t feel the need to look at the pictures. Except the one of your daughter of course!

I really don’t think I can take much more sadness or bad things happening. I wish sometimes that there was a filter on my computer that would take the bad stories off of the internet. Everyday it’s another child missing, another person kidnapped, shot, or killed in an accident.

    Your daughter is beautiful.
