This young man:
is suspected of having murdered this young woman
the day after her return home from college for Thanksgiving break, following 18 months of an “on-again-off-again,” apparently troubled, relationship.
Now of course, he is to be presumed innocent until proven guilty, and maybe I should avoid “jumping on the bandwagon” by writing about this, but I have children, and can only imagine the pain both of these sets of parents must be feeling at this point.
What crucial emotional piece is missing that would allow anyone to do such a thing?
I’m going to go hug my children now.
Sigh.
I have a daughter this age and it’s very scary these days. Very scary. I can’t believe how mean and evil some people are. But then again I would turn around and kill them with no problem. Maybe if more people did that it would solve the problem. Not politcally correct I know. Oh well, don’t mess with a lion’s cubs.
The “hug” part is very important. So, too, are understandings of boundaries and responsibilities. Still, who can predict these things? If I could choose only one, I’d go for the hugs.
I believe the girl is from Liverpool, NY which is very close to where I spent my high school years. It really is a tragedy. Hugs are good because – forget about the dirt-bag boyfriends – you just never know when something weird might happen and take the people you love away from you. So hug each other. Hugs are good. And smooches, too. (As long as they aren’t wet.) 😉
